Always looking for a unique story to tell, Julie jumped at the chance to chaperone a group of local high school students on an immersion trip to India.
In the age of small news budgets, this was yet another passion piece produced while on “vacation.” Equipped with her station-issued MMJ gear, (minus the tri-pod – long story), Julie shot, edited and produced the two part series.
“Outsourced: Silicon Valley Students in India” examines the connections between the Bay Area and what has become known as “Silicon Valley East.”
It also provides a glimpse into India’s growing wealth gap through the eyes of 25 U.S. teenagers. From touring Cisco Systems and call centers to spending time in slums with street children, the private school students provide a unique perspective on the dichotomy of India.
“Outsourced” was named Best Feature Story by the Associated Press and earned Julie the title of Best Video Journalist/Multi-Media Journalist by the RTDNA.
